Hahha. Hey wait...that's not funny

Tomorrow our new stove will be installed. we wait in dread because anytime anything in this house is touched...it breaks.  so let's see what the installers do with an aging gas line. excitement.

on that note...our aging dishwasher has sprung a bad leak. by the time we noticed it had warped part of the cabinet/floor.  we've tried various fixes (in fact that's how we spent the weekend) and need to wait a few days before testing again.  if this repair does not work, we need to order more parts and replace the gasket and spray arm. If it still leaks.....we may have to buy a new one since there have been too many problems with it (over 12 years old and we've done all the repairs ourselves).  I;d normally say...scrap the dishwasher concept, but I cannot wash dishes by hand with my bad hip/wrist and xlorp is running triage on way too much in our lives.

thank goodness we no longer buy holiday gifts for each other...that's a major termite repair, a new stove and a new PC all in the span of 4 months. This is the rainy day we've saved for.  But ouch.

PS. my gastroparesis is back - this is the longest period I've had it without being on pain meds. Ouch again.

PPS.  On Tuesday we call tehc support and demand that they send someone out to fix the motherboard problems that have cropped up in my new PC.

PPPS. And...in spite of all this I think...hey..it could be worse. In fact...2 years ago this Christmas it was worse. My mother was in the hospital with a pulmonary embolism and both xlorp and I were embarking on the Year Our Parents Almost Died.

So termites-gas-stove-water-leaking-dishwasher-motherboards......"I fie in your general direction" (apologies to Monty Python for the slight liberty with the quote).

Titles are HARD.

It seems to me that when you actually manage to finish a story (and 'finish' here is going to mean 'I can't work on this fucking thing one minute more'), it should title itself. Self-titling stories, that's what I want.

And then, THE WORLD. MWAHA.

Or just a title, really. I'd be okay with that.

This made my day

Working with websites stored on the Internet Archives is a lot like how the Internet used to be before Google and search engines. The only way you found another website was to click on a link..and then another...and then another. You wandered the deserts being guided by wisps of clouds and the angle of the sun. And if you ever looked back....you'd see no trace of how you got there.

Which is why finding this and then being able to create the Fanlore entry here made my day.

And I actually mean it this time.

I am so ashamed. D:

In surprisingly unrelated news, I finally watched Australia. Thank you, Mr. Jackman, for providing delicious eye candy, and naturally now all I want is fic where grown-up Nullah stops by the Downs to give Drover a blowjob or two.

Well hello there stranger!

1. I am still here. It took us around a week but we were finally able to find a stove that I can operate. In the end, we had to go to 4 different stores and test multiple models to find one that will not  cause me more injury.  So yeah!  New stove in a few weeks.

2. Which leaves me...ready to launch into the next big task. My long term disability company sends a raft  of forms around Turkey Day with instructions to send them back by Dec. 13th. I'll be meeting with my doctor tomorrow to fill out the paper work.

3. Which leads me...to one of the worse bouts of gastroparesis I've had in years. if it had kept ratcheting up, I've needed to have gone to the ER. Basically, my digestive system slows down so all food processing in the stomach stops. I feel like I've finished a Turkey dinner -  24x7 - and even drinking water leaves me nauseas and in stomach pain.  And yet because my body is not getting nutrients, I start to feel faint and weak.  We think we've turned the corner but the cure is just as bad and leads to more stomach unrest and cramping

And this is why I refuse to take pain meds whenever possible. My EDS seems to exaggerate this 'slowing' on non-medication days -- adding pain meds slows it even further. If I took pain meds more often, I'd be living this life all the time. Trading one set of pain for another. And somehow eating and drinking is at the top of my list of life 'must haves.' So I am having to bully and coax EDS into balancing pain and eating/drinking. And on some weeks the EDS just grabs the keys and takes me out for a wild and crazy joyride. And then leaves me stranded without any gasoline and full of trash. EDS .. my own juvenile deliquent.

4., On a cheerier note I had friends come over and we watched "Dr Horrible' for the first time. It was wonderful. I adored the fan submiited videos on the DVD etxras.

5. As a final note: in addition to my computer hardware woes I am having problems with Firefox - it crashes every hour.  Did the standard tests (disable plugins/addons, upgraded flash and java etc) and it still crashes.  This means  that a lot of the plugins I rely on for newsletters and writing posts and making website edits aren't available to me. I also haven't read much in terms of friendslists.

But I know you're out there...so waves!

Merlin Vid Rec: There Are Legends

There Are Legends by [info]ras_elased. ♥
Instead of Arthur being taken to Avalon and Merlin being immortal and waiting for Arthur to be reincarnated, Merlin trades in his immortality to save Arthur's life, so now Arthur is immortal and waits for Merlin to return from Avalon. Centuries go by, and he mostly lives in the past, unable to let go, until one day he passes Merlin on the street...

Blues are nocturnal.

Tonight so far has included yoga, the DVD commentary for Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, some very strange and random urge to clean the grout in the backsplash above my kitchen sink with a toothbrush, digging through the external hard drive and rediscovering the OST for Chrono Cross, my neighbour orgasming incredibly loudly, downloading anything and everything that involves Robert Downey Jr.'s face, and rearranging my attic while muddling over the issues of identity and existance in Chrono Cross.

Not sleeping is certainly productive, but not in that way where it's useful. I haven't gone to bed in three days now! It is very strange to subsist on random couch naps, lemme tell you.

Tomorrow is movie day, as Roomie's retroactive pay finally showed up, so we're gonna go see 2012 and The Men Who Stare at Goats. As much as I want to see both, I really wish Sherlock freakin' Holmes was out already.

In other news, I want to write fic but I don't want to actually write. This presents an obvious problem.

What We Have Here Is A Failure To Cogitate

A&E's TV show "Intervention" (a show about kicking drug addiction) featured a woman with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome who was taking 2x the maximum daily dosage of fentanyl (a pain killer). She was also mentally ill: the flowers were killing her, people could zap her with their stored electricity over the phone and she advised - at all costs - for people to avoid Connecticut. Why? Because Connecticut did not have enough people to absorb the evil electrical rays.

So you'd think any rational person watching the show would assume that her addiction problem was most likely the result of a severe mental illness. And not watch the show and come away thinking that Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome was not a real medical condition because she was freaking about flowers. Or decide that her pain and symptoms were not real because she had odd theories about the electrical properties of people talking on phones.*

But sadly, this level of rationality is not a universal given. So the next time you run into someone with cancer or arthritis or MS and they also happen to have a delusional disorder that causes them to eat flowers and rant about alien probes - remember, that automatically means cancer and arthritis and MS do not exist.

Just wanted to make certain we're all on the same page. Or not.

*There is some doubt whether she was suffering from EDS or, at the very least, that her symptoms had progressed to the point that she needed to overdose on pain meds every day. The show did bring a doctor to the intervention who was familiar with EDS and he very carefully side stepped the issue.Saying things like: "even if she does have EDS, there is no need for her to take a lethal daily dose of pain meds."

Wee!

Finally got my AO3 invite! :D Now begins the deliberation over a username, and which stories to start uploading. There is no way in hell I'm sticking everything all the way back to 2000 on there, as a) I am lazy, and b) even I have some shame.

Dieser Eintrag ist überhaupt gar nicht hier

Ich habe 2046 ungelesene Mails in meiner Inbox, dieser Eintrag hier kann also gar nicht existieren, weil ich logischerweise gerade all meine E-Mails beantworte. *hust*

About a Gay-Sex Videogame This Christmas Season. Dragon Age: Origins has taken the terribly awkward genre of videogame dialog and melded it with gay romance and, also gay sex scenes. Who, in these United States, could possibly object to foisting this content on teenaged boys? Heh, heh.

Ich brauche Zeit für die ganzen ungelesenen SGA- und SPN-Big-Bang-Sachen! Ernsthaft, gibt mir bitte jemand drei bis vier Wochen!

::versteckt sich wieder::

¹ Neal Caffrey bei White Collar sieht übrigens so aus wie ein dunkelhaariger Terence Hill. Ich weiß, ich weiß! Ich kann doch auch nichts dafür!!! /o\
